I love you, sleep tight, & see you in Heaven

My sweet baby girl whom I had the honor to love and take care of her for 13 years (adopted her when she was 2 at a shelter I volunteered at during my lowest point of my life)… passed in her sleep last night.

The thing that keeps my head spinning is the fact she acted so normal last night. We did our nightly routine like normal…

I woke up this morning for our morning routine… I tried to wake her but she wouldn’t wake up… she never sleeps facing away on her bed… but I found her facing away… smiling in her sleep. I just can’t believe it still. I found her 6AM in that state and had to wait 2 hours to call a local crematory and then wait another 3 hours to be able to bring her in.

She was my best friend. My longest relationship. She was my guardian angel… she has seen me at my lowest (I had multiple), she has seen me when I cry, laugh, sad, mad… she’s seen it all. I spent 13 years with this girl and she meant the world to me. I would have ended my life multiple times if it wasn’t for her because I made a vow and promise to her that I would take care of her for the rest of her life.

She was a pitbull in LA, had pups right before being transferred to the shelter I volunteered at (based on her “full of milk supply)… she would have most likely gotten put down eventually but I fell in love with her at first sight and just knew I had to have her. She taught me unconditional love. I love you so much Delilah.

We had a scare almost 2 years ago where I saw signs that she might not have long left… she started having severe dementia… but she saw me breakdown like never before and said “she isn’t ready yet”… stuck by my side for an additional 2 years and left when she felt it was the right time…

My mind’s still in denial and I still don’t believe this is happening but I just wanted to share my story of Delilah. Thank you for reading.
