Tru 78 Days Forgotten: Tru’s Time Is Almost Up

He’s been forgotten once. Then twice. And now, after nearly three months in the shelter—he’s still waiting.

Tru’s story is heartbreaking. Only 2 years old, he first entered the shelter system in December after getting loose. His family reclaimed him that time—but just a few months later, in March, Tru found himself back behind the same kennel bars. This time, when the shelter contacted his family… they never responded. They never came. And they never looked back.

That was 78 days ago. Since then, Tru has had no interest. No breaks. No staycations. Just the same loud, lonely kennel every single day.

And still—he remains gentle. Still hopeful. Still trying.

Tru is everything you could want in a companion. He’s met older children and done beautifully. He’s loving, energetic, and would make an incredible running partner—he even joins a local running group on Sundays. He’s potty trained, smart, and very treat-motivated, which makes him a dream to train. He already knows “sit,” and he’s eager to learn more—he just wants someone to give him the chance.

He absolutely adores other dogs. Tru is so social that he’s even scaled fences just to be near them—he doesn’t want to be left out, he just wants to belong. Because of this, he’ll need a secure yard and supervision outside—he’s not trying to escape; he’s just hoping to find a friend. (Some call it FOMO. For Tru, it’s deeper than that—it’s a longing not to be alone.)

But despite all that makes him wonderful, Tru has been overlooked again and again—and with the shelter constantly over capacity, he’s paid the price.

Tru has landed on the euthanasia list multiple times. Only the efforts of a small group of fosters and volunteers have kept him alive, getting him temporary boarding to give him a break and buy him time. But that time is nearly up. Tru’s boarding ends this Friday—and once it does, he’ll be forced back into the shelter, where he will not be safe. With dogs pouring in daily and space running out, returning to the shelter puts him right back at risk.

He needs a lifeline. He needs a home. He needs a long-term foster or adopter now—before it’s too late.

Tru is adoptable through Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control and he is running out of time. Please—don’t scroll past. Don’t let Tru’s story end behind shelter walls. Share his story. Foster him. Adopt him. Be the reason this sweet boy gets to live. To help, comment, message directly, or email [email protected]
