Photos of my first ever dog before her last day 🥺

This is our 8-year-old beagle, taken just before what might be her last day.

She’s our first dog, and we love her so much.

She had surgery last week for bladder stones, but the vets found that her bladder was already necrotic and leaking urine into her abdominal cavity, which caused a serious infection. We were told her chances of survival were very low—around 0–25%—but we still chose to fight, hoping her body could still recover.

She gave us moments of hope. She ate on her own, her urine started to clear, and we saw little signs of strength. But eventually, things began to decline. Her blood values dropped, kidney levels worsened, and she started vomiting again. She now needs a blood transfusion—a big risk, because dogs don’t have blood typing or crossmatching like humans. There’s no way to know if her body will accept it.

Even if she makes it through that, she’d still need another surgery to remove her entire bladder. That would mean a life of pain and high maintenance care. And right now, even with everything we’re trying, we can still see her hurting.

We said "bye" to her yesterday, and she cried. Like she knew. That broke us.

The guilt is heavy inside me—for not noticing the signs earlier, for not bringing her in sooner. I keep wondering if things would’ve been different.

My Soph, We will take care of your daughter. We’ll show extra love and care for her, on your behalf.

We also promised ourselves that she will be our last dog. It’s too painful to watch one suffer like this. But we will always admire dogs from afar, and still care for them in our own way.

If I ever get rich, I’ll build a community to treat stray dogs and dogs from low-income families—because no dog deserves to suffer just because their humans can’t afford help.
