My German Shepherd passed away yesterday.

My German Shepherd passed away yesterday.

This is Sheba, she was 7, due to be 8 years old in September. Gone far too soon, there was never going to be enough time.

I came home from work last night and she was in my kitchen floor, bloated and gone. When I had left for work she showed no signs of being sick but something had happened. I believe it was gastric dilatation volvulus, it’s supposedly common in Shepherds and is fatal in hours. Unfortunately that means she had passed alone with my other dog being the only person she had around.

She was my rock, the one consistent thing that I could always rely on. The last few years of my life have been rough and she had been there every step of the way. I lost my Dad in November of 2021 and then had a lot happened after. I then had an alcohol problem and she was there every time I was drunk keeping me company. She got to meet my newborn son last May and I am forever thankful that I got to have that happen.

I couldn’t cry for the first hour, it felt unreal. I never really thought about it happening. This is the very first dog I’ve had pass naturally. The last 24 hours have been insanely rough. I’ve slept between 1-2 hours, but I have dropped her off for cremation and overall I just have to believe that she is out of pain.

It’s just crazy how much can change in under 12 hours.
