![]() | My toddler gave our dog a quarter corn cob. She swallowed it mostly whole. It happened in a matter of seconds. Trying to grab her turned into doing the Heimlich, one of the more terrifying moments. Ended up bringing her to the emergency vet and they induced vomiting, and got two out of the three peices out. The peice that was in her stomach at the time of vet is about the size of a penny. I have to monitor her over the next few weeks for obstruction. Vet was hopeful it could pass on its own. She is eating and drinking fine, and going outside without issue. Made a few changes. Toddler now only eats at her highchair, Maya will be in her kennel. From the moment food is placed till it's picked up. No food will be out on the counter until she is in the kennel. Also any play toys that are tempting or are too small have been removed or closely supervised. I also have been giving her more one on one time, short walks(it's to cold for our normal walks) and play. Food puzzles in the evening, and more toys/rawhide free chews to keep her mind busy. This experience has absolutely terrified me, I would have never known corn cobs are so dangerous [link] [comments] |
