Hello, I have a male medium-size dog we rescued, could be a dachshund or a min-pin or a cocker spaniel mix. He is 8 years old.
He began having seizures around 6 months ago, took him to the vet the first time and tests came back with no results and the vet just said to come back if they get worse. They happened maybe once every couple of months, until he had one yesterday and another one today, they are getting worse.
The problem is that his seizures are 8-10 minutes now, which the internet says should be concerning. However, they aren't full-blown losing consciousness seizures. This is what he does: He muscles shake, especially his head. He begins drooling and doesn't stop until maybe an hour after his seizure. He can't walk and often falls over, but he doesn't flail his legs around aggressively like I've seen in other seizure videos, he just shakes. He vomits. He's conscious the whole time and seems to be relatively calm, no biting. Is aware of his surroundings.
How panicked should I be?? Based on your guy's experience, do you think he's going to be seriously harmed or die because they're so long? He seems to be fine after them, just very tired. My parents just want to call the vet and ask for advice and not actually take him in for an appointment but if he keeps having them daily then I don't know what's going to happen. I want to gradually changing his diet to be healthier or maybe try things like CBD because medication can have bad side effects but we might just need to put him on medication immediately.
