This is my girl Sheba, shes my girlfriend’s dog but shes really ours. We got her in May of 2022, she just kinda showed up. Her mother’s friend brought her over and she was ours from then on. She was the only girl dog i’d has since i was 5 years old. I love her so much, shes been great to me. Before we got her my dog had already been with us, he was about 8 years old when she came in the picture and they absolutely loved each other. She cared for him like they were a loving couple, he loved her just as much. She was previously an outside dog that was used for breeding. She’s given us the best two years than anything we could’ve ever asked for. She’s so chunky, i just love her so much. When we first got her we noticed her skin/hair was slowly getting darker in patches, she had some sort of bacteria that was causing her discoloration. But we made sure to handle it. Fast forward to today June 9th, 2024 we had gotten into bed around 12am and fell asleep not too long after. Around 3:30am i heard Sheba excessively panting and thought maybe she was hot;i live in southern nevada and it gets crazy hot here. I turn on the air to see if she’ll cool down…nothing. Okay, maybe water or outside? Let her out and get some water, still panting. Its around 4:15 at this point and my girlfriend wakes up due to the panting and me trying to get her to calm down. We’re both a little annoyed because it was so sudden, this soon turns into worry as she wont stop. We make the call to go to the vet as its almost 5am and it opens at 7 so we wait it out and comfort her. We get to the vet right as it opens and check in, then after she gets taken to the back. We wait about 15-20 minutes and the doctor comes back in. She says she found the problem and that it was in her uterus, it turns out that she has something called a Pyometra which is a bacterial infection in her uterus (UTI for dogs) doctor tells us this and says she needs a surgery, she mentions how its basically a neuter procedure. So our first concern is her going under as shes about 7 years old. Then we get a quote for it and its $3600+, I immediately tell the help that this isnt possible and if there is any alternative. We’re given a negative and said there is antibiotics that will help her make her comfortable but not solve the problem. So now we’re left with no good options. Im absolutely devastated.
