R.I.P - Patch our family dog.

R.I.P - Patch our family dog.

Photos are from when he was sick to when he was healthy

TLDR : Patch was A Jack russel that went through A battle with liver and auto immune issues. Multiple flights and boat trips. he passed away tucked up in bed.

His story :

Patch was A farm dog that came to our family out of his own choice. We adopted him to stop him running up the busy road and have had him for over 8 years.

He was A true farm dog and loved sleeping up against cows.

He was A very loyal dog and would ride vehicles on your lap observing the land.

He was almost too loyal sometimes and enjoyed scaring the crap out of larger dogs by barking suddenly and then chasing them.

His issues:

Patch suffered first from anemia ( low blood cell count ) and nearly died twice from it.

An average dog needs about 40 to 50 percent red blood cell count and he dipped below 9% before having A risky blood transfusion he survived. He also nearly went into liver failure when this happened and ended up looking like A dog with simpsons skin from jaundice.

He stabilised and was on heavy steroids to reduce his immune response and that very much helped while we tried to figure out the issue.

After multiple flights and A boat rides over the span of 4-5 months he slowly started to loose muscle as his liver wasn't working as well.

We found out that it could be A liver abscess only the day before he passed as his multiple scans and blood tests lead to no signs of anything else being the problem

He passed 5/1/2024 after making discomfort noises for the first time during his entire recovery.

He was loved by his family and was buried at the same farm he grew up on.

If you ever can't tell what the immediate issue is with A dog don't be afraid to get more than one vets opinion even if you respect the initial vet.

The vet nurses on our island ( Alderney ) were amazing and are both fantastic examples of what vet nurses can be.

Thanks Kelly and Tracy x.

Thanks for reading and extending his memory ❤️.
