Our big Bear Dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge Monday. After battling PLE for 3+ years, he developed cancer in his stomach and an infection that ultimately took his life. We tried everything. He fought hard and lived for way longer than our doctors expected.
He was a rescue dog that rescued us. Over the 10 years we got to spend with him, we learned how to find joy in the little things. I learned how to be a little more patient. The Bear Dog was the best road dog ever. We moved from Chicago to the East Coast and back. As long as my wife and I had the big guy anywhere, it felt like home.
While we are profoundly sad, we are also grateful for a decade of joy, getting outside, and snuggling with our best buddy.
Hug your pups. Take the long way home on your next walk. Throw your frisbee for as long as they want. Let them try to carry a stick bigger than them. Make every second count.
