Beef broth soaked peanut butter stuffed frozen carrots. Have I created the ultimate chew/enrichment item for the summer or a mess machine? Only time will tell.

Beef broth soaked peanut butter stuffed frozen carrots. Have I created the ultimate chew/enrichment item for the summer or a mess machine? Only time will tell.

Whether or not this has been done before, I don't know, but i thought of this earlier in the week and my idea has finally come to fruition. I keep buying toys for my dog that he chews little pieces off of and it makes me a nervous wreck. (And he hates when I take them away) So I needed to come up with a solution. Regular frozen carrots were not interesting to him.

Here is what I did.

• bought the fattest carrots I could find at the store

• peeled them

• soaked them in **UNSALTED** (*not* low sodium) beef broth for 24 hours. I am sure overnight would have been fine.

• used a drill with the largest/never been usedest "wood bit" I could find to drill holes on the sides and tops of the carrots.

• soaked the carrots in the broth another day so it would get into the holes. Probably not necessary.

• piped peanut butter into the holes as best I could using a pastry bag. It was a little tricky because they were still wet. If I do this again, I will freeze them first.

• freeze the carrot

• added a little extra garnish peanut butter on the top but realized that was probably going to contribute to a larger mess so I probably won't do that again

If these are a hit and I make them again, I am going to get larger drill bits, freeze the carrots after soaking and before piping the peanut butter, and cut them down a little shorter so they fit better in the bag I let them soak in. Overall I am really happy with how this turned out. My dog normally doesn't care about carrots but a beef broth soaked carrot was a different story!
