| I have been on holiday in Turkey for a week. A nice resort with a stretch of beach. On my first day, I arrived and went straight into the water. This massive dog was walking along the shoreline. People were dispersing like there was an angry crocodile coming. But he just found a spot with no people, got into the water to cool down, and then left. I jumped out of the water like there were piranhas after me. I ran to get some water, poured it into an empty cup, and he drank it gratefully. He finished drinking and gave me THE LOOK. I know that look from home. It’s the “please pet me!” look. So I started petting him, and my OCD went into overdrive because he was covered in tiny jumping black bugs. I kept petting him for a while, then “firmly” said, “Okay, buddy, time to move on!” And he looked at me and put his head between my legs — the universal sign for: “No!!! No stopping! MORE PETS!” Of course, the next day I came back with a big bowl of beef, chicken, rice, and salmon stolen from the all-inclusive restaurant. He is such a good boy!!!! The next day, I asked the beach staff about the big fawn-coloured Kangal. They didn’t understand what I was saying and just waved their hands: “No danger! Good dog!” They thought I was about to complain about a massive dog sitting on a sun lounger in the shade. Nothing could be further from the truth! I adored him. I wanted to adopt him so badly!!!! But there are two other problematic rescues waiting back home. We came by plane. There was no way to just take him to a vet and then onto the plane. I know this. I am a grown-up. But I still have this sense of loss. He would have taken up most of my bed. But he was such a good and smart boy! Please tell me I am being silly. [link] [comments] |
