I finally earned the trust of my roommate’s rescue dog!!

Been living with my current roommate for 8 months. He has the sweetest rescue dog but she’s very anxious and takes a while to get used to people. It took a few months of leaving out treats in my room to get her to be comfortable with me, but she won’t let me pet her or get near her unless I’m feeding her treats out of my hand, and even then she grabs the treats and runs away. I never took it personally and just kept trying to meet her at her own pace. Tonight my roommate ran out to run an errand. I had my bedroom door open and was laying in bed reading a book. Completely unprompted, she hopped up on my bed. She likes laying there when I’m at my desk working but never when I’m already in it, so this was already huge. I wasn’t prepared for what happened next. She started cuddling and asking for pets!! I almost cried. I’ve been having a very rough couple of days and I think she sensed I needed some love. I’m so honored that I’ve earned her trust. Dogs are the best.
