| Thank you, everyone, for your kind words, support, and condolences. Many people have reached out asking what happened to Blue. About a year ago, we purchased a hard rubber toy for our Labrador, who was around two years old at the time and going through his heavy chewing phase. Eventually, we noticed the toy had been chewed up and was missing pieces. We found some of the pieces and threw them away along with the toy. What we didn’t realize was that Blue had found and swallowed some of the missing pieces. Over time, those pieces remained in his system and eventually bonded together into one large mass. About a week ago, we noticed that Blue was vomiting and had stopped eating. We took him to the vet, where they discovered an obstruction in his intestines. Surgery was performed, and they removed what had become a hard rubber ball made up of the pieces he had swallowed. He came home that night and seemed to be doing much better the following day. Unfortunately, by Saturday afternoon, he stopped eating and drinking again. We rushed him to the hospital, where we learned that he had become septic after the incision in his intestines had opened. We e were faced with the heartbreaking decision to let him go. We are sharing this because we hope it might help another pet owner avoid the same tragedy. Please keep a close eye on chew toys and inspect them for missing or damaged pieces. Even small fragments can cause serious problems if swallowed. Blue was deeply loved and will be missed every single day. [link] [comments] |
