Got some bad news at the vet yesterday

Recently our 8 year old new big brother Tate started acting a little different. His appetite began to dwindle and he started acting a little more sleepy. At first I thought “there’s a crying baby in the house now- mom and dad are more tired, a little stressed, and eating less too.”

When I was giving him some pets the other day I realized his lymph nodes were swollen. After a bit of research it became obvious we need to get him to the vet ASAP.

Had the appointment yesterday and our fears became reality. Lymphoma. We have an appointment with an oncologist Monday. I’m trying my best to stay positive. I don’t know how much time we have left with him, but he’s happy when we are happy. On the inside I’m a complete wreck.

This dog is everything to us. When I met my wife, he was her 6 month old trouble maker. Since then, he’s become my best friend. He was at our wedding. He’s been there for every up and down of our marriage. He’s the sweetest, most gentle big brother to our 5 week old son. I cannot bear the thought of losing him.

If anybody has tips on how to deal with this, or any positive experiences they have had with a dog who has been diagnosed with lymphoma and lived longer than the average 1-6 months, I’d love to hear it.
