This is Hundy.
He was just a stray puppy living outside my apartment complex in China. Sometimes he’d play with his now-brother Paco when we went out for walks.
At the time, covid had just started. I was an expat in China, money was tight, and I had temporarily lost work because everything was shutting down during the first quarantine phase.
I asked one of the security guards in the community if he could let Xiao Hei (later Hundy) sleep inside his booth at night, and he agreed. For a few days, I shared Paco’s kibble and treats with him whenever I could.
Then he got hit by a car.
The security guard messaged me immediately, and my now-boyfriend rushed over on his motorbike to take us to the vet. I was so overwhelmed, just crying while holding him, unable to do anything…
It was past midnight. He was coughing blood when we arrived at the hospital, and the next morning I was told he also had pneumonia. I was told with him being such a small and unvaccinated puppy, his chances of survival were low and needed tests, exams, scans, hospitalization and treatment would be expensive. But we managed to do it.
And a few days later, he completely recovered and he came home with us.
The rest is history.
