If you have a husky, you know they are basically made of pure energy, drama, and chaos. About 7 months ago, Eman was doing his usual post-dinner zoomies, took a sharp pivot on the floor, and just wiped out hard. The yelp he let out was absolutely gut-wrenching, and he instantly refused to put any weight on his back leg.

Seeing my tough, crazy boy looking so confused and in pain completely broke my heart. We rushed him to the vet and got the dreaded diagnosis: a torn CCL (the dog equivalent of an ACL). We were terrified. We really wanted to avoid putting him under for a massive, invasive surgery right away if we could help it, so our vet suggested we try conservative management first.

They put him on a strict regimen of anti-inflammatories and pain meds, and strongly recommended we get him a supportive orthopedic knee brace to mechanically stabilize the joint while the scar tissue slowly built up over time.

I won't sugarcoat it, trying to keep a young husky on strict rest and leash-only potty breaks for months is a true test of your sanity. He was wonderfully dramatic about it, giving us all the heavy sighs and vocal complaints from his bed. We survived on puzzle toys, snuffles, and just sitting on the floor with him to keep his spirits up when he clearly just wanted to run.

But fast forward to today, 7 months later. We just got back from our first real, long walk around the neighborhood, and Eman didn't limp a single time. He was prancing, sniffing every single tree, and had that big, goofy husky smile back on his face. My partner and I legitimately teared up watching him trot through the house this afternoon. The relief of finally having our sweet, vocal boy back and pain-free is just indescribable. Our whole family feels like we can finally breathe again.

I included a picture of him rocking his brace during his recovery! I just wanted to share this here because I know how isolating and scary dog injuries can be. If you are currently in the thick of a joint injury and losing your mind trying to keep your high-energy dog calm, please hang in there. It is a slow, exhausting process, but seeing them finally walk without pain makes every single difficult day completely worth it.
