Gone at 10 months old

We had to put our dog, Sunny (black dog in pics), down today. He was 10 months old. We got him at around 2 months old from a rescue (his mother was hit by a car according to the rescue). He was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy in early March. It was unrelated to Chagas Disease or old age. Just drew the short end of the stick health wise.

The initial prognosis was 4-12 months and he only made it an additional 5 weeks. He was on 5 medications: 2 diuretics and 3 heart meds. His abdomen had been drained twice (600 mL initially then 1700 mL last week). He never let any of this get him down. He fought hard and as long as he could.

He did not deserve to go this early. He had a whole life ahead of him. His heart basically gave out and couldn’t go on anymore. I feel even guiltier because I could not be there in person to say goodbye and hold his head/paw as he passed.

He was a super sweet dog. Our other dog cuddled with him to the end at the pet hospital as he slowly, quietly, and calmly drifted away. I’m sure he has already met up with all of my other dogs that have passed across the Rainbow Bridge.

We love you, Sunny! And I am so sorry we couldn’t do more!
