| (This story is true and contains information that may be sad and heartbreaking for all of us who love our pets) (I don't have any photos of Rex or his owner, the photo is of Vodka, Rex's mother) During the 2024 fire, the biggest one we've ever had here where I live (Viña del Mar), I learned something that broke my heart but at the same time reminded me what we are capable of doing for our canine family. Rex, the brother of Whisky (my German Shepherd), who are also the offspring of my dogs who have already passed away, I gave to an incredible family. The compatibility between them always brings a smile to my face when I remember it. They showed me photos, they told me how Rex, before going to sleep, would check every night that the four children in the family were okay, and how every morning he would wake them up so they could get ready for school. In the winters, he would lie next to the stove, and he loved running around the property they had. I felt so happy with the life they were giving him. During the 2024 fire, they were leaving their house, which was already engulfed in flames, when their owner looked at the truck from which his family was yelling for them to run, and saw that Rex wasn't there... he realized that part of his family was missing, so he turned around to go back inside to look for him. Rex was leaving the house and he was going in to grab him when the house collapsed and took both their lives. When I found out, my eyes filled with tears, but it reminded me of something important: although human beings are capable of many atrocities, they are also capable of giving their lives to try to save those they love. That although there are people who are truly monsters in human skin... there are also those of us who love. This story may be very sad and heartbreaking, as it did for me... but it is also a reminder that should not be forgotten, of what we are capable of doing for our family. I will never forget Carlos or Rex... I hope they are both together wherever they are. [link] [comments] |
