| Daisy's life started out hard. She was in a hoarder situation and kept in a cage with a lot of other puppies. She was rescued by North shore Animal League where we adopted her in 2011. We quickly learned she had food issues and did not react well to fast movement; not the best combination when you have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. When my son was 2, he was running around and she nipped his head. Hard! My immediate response was we need to rehome her; my wife said we failed her. My wife also said, "what message are we telling our kids? You do something wrong and you're out of the family?" The work and training began. While she never became a lap dog, or a curl up on the bed lady, she developed an amazing sense of humor and was an absolute prankster. Literally hiding things, acting coy, and smiling while doing it. She never missed an opportunity to howl as soon as we came home, get today hi and wait for head scratching, and come close enough to make sure you knew she was with you, even if she wasn't on you. She battled cancer for 3 years; still playing and doing all she could. When we made arrangements for an at home euthanasia, she passed over on her own terms the night before they came after spending the day outside, sniffing the air, with her head in my son's lap. She was 15. It's almost a year, and I miss her so much. [link] [comments] |
