| I was walking through the medina this afternoon when this gorgeous girl came up to greet me. She’s got that confident but gentle energy - tail wagging, but clearly knows every corner of this alley. The shopkeeper told me she’s been here for at least 5 years, maybe longer. Everyone in the neighborhood feeds her, and she’s basically the unofficial security guard. She knows who belongs and who’s just passing through. What struck me most was how healthy and well-cared for she looks. Her coat was clean, she wasn’t skittish at all, and she had that calm demeanor of a dog who knows she’s loved by the whole community. The shopkeeper laughed and said she’s better at greeting customers than he is. I gave her some pets and she posed for this photo like she knew exactly what she was doing. These community dogs are such an integral part of life here in the medina - they’re not strays, they’re everybody’s dog. ❤️ Has anyone else met street dogs like this in their travels? There’s something special about animals that belong to an entire neighborhood instead of just one person. [link] [comments] |
