| Today we had to say goodbye to Chance. He was the best dog I've ever had. The first half of his life was a struggle. He wasn't cared for, and we found him miserable and sleeping in a muddy back yard. The original owners couldn't even tell us how old he was. At the time we didn't think we wanted a dog as big as a black lab, but after seeing him in that condition we knew we couldn't leave him there. We took a chance with him hoping that he would fit in with our little family unsure if he would get along with our son or our kitten. It was one of the best decisions we ever made. We gave him a new name, Chance, as in a second chance at life. Ever since day one with us, he was part of the family. He the most kind and loving dog. Always happy. He was so gentle around the little kids, especially our toddler who would lay on him, hug him awkwardly, and do everything that would drive a normal dog crazy. He was untrained but smart. He learned quickly every trick I taught him, and would always be by my side ready for the next adventure. His final day was spent doing everything he loved. A long car ride while sniffing the air out the window. A walk in the park to enjoy nature, and he met a new doggy friend on the trail. A long cuddle session in bed relaxing with the family. Finally, a home cooked steak dinner. Until the very last second he was loved, gave his love right back, and had a smile on his face. Even through all the pain he still had that smile. We will miss him so much, and cherish all the memories he gave us. Goodbye Chance. I'll always remember you. [link] [comments] |
