Bittersweet goodbye sweet Sancho

Bittersweet goodbye sweet Sancho

We got him after we had lost two dogs in fairly rapid succession. Trixy at 14, and Euler at 12. Pyper, our remaining pup, was pretty depressed. So we went to our local shelter to see if we could find a companion that would be a good match for our heartbroken girl. There we found Sancho, a medical needs heeler puppy. His neurological condition left him struggling to walk, and hard for other dogs to interact with. Naturally, Pyper picked him. We understood life would be hard and unfair with a dog like him. We took him home anyway. After visits to neurologists, specialists, and numerous vets, we made his life as comfortable as possible given the shitty hand he was dealt. We took him home when he was about 6 months old. He traveled the country with us, experienced his first and only snow, and felt the love of everyone he ever met. Ultimately, his spirit was just too big for his broken little body. Sancho spent just under two years on this earth. Sancho broke me. I will never recover from his unrelenting spirit. I consider myself humbled and blessed to have been able to care for this special guy. Run fast on perfect legs Sancho.

I know many of us here have lost special companions. My heart goes out to each and every one of you that is also dealing with a loss. Thanks for reading ❤️
