Our dog passed this morning I'm devastated

Our little rescue Frenchie passed this morning and it's just terrible, yesterday I came downstairs at 5am to find her having a massive seizure I tried to calm her but after 5 minutes I could tell it was serious so I scooped her up and drove to our local vets house as soon as I could.

The 30 mins it took to get their were just torture I could hear her still fitting I just wanted to stop and comfort her but knew she needed help ASAP. Luckily the vet was up he took her straight away and sedated her . I was hopeful she would be ok he kept her overnight to monitor her however when he checked on her this morning she had passed in her sleep.

I'm just devastated she spent the first 3 years of her life in a puppy mill in a cage in the dark being bred from no toys ,no blanket not even a name. We had her for 6 years and it breaks my heart in the end she died in a cage on her own . I hope she wasn't scared I wish she could have passed in her bed at home. I feel like at the end we let her down I felt something wasn't right just thought she was getting old I should have trusted my instincts and gotten her checked out. I would have paid anything if it meant bringing her home today .

We took our 8 year old to the vets to say goodbye he placed a photo of himself under her paw so she doesn't forget him she looked like she was sleeping the vet had made her look cosy in a lovely blanket, he hasn't stopped crying last night he went to sleep with a photo of her over his heart and was begging me to promise she would be ok he even offered the money he had saved up to pay for her to get better , god its making me cry just typing this.

I just wish pets never had to suffer I know one day we all have to say goodbye but it always feels so dreadful.

Sleep well Maisie I hope i will see you again one day.
