| | This has been the best dog ever. I got him from the shelter in 2019 after a relationship imploding and losing a step daughter that I loved like she was my own. This guy had been taken to a shelter twice. I had originally found a dog I was interested in getting and took one last look around and just saw this quiet guy. The volunteer took him out and the dog loved him, but was absolutely shy around folks he didn’t trust. I gambled on him. Kept the shelters name, it fit. He’s generally really well behaved, but sometimes food temptation gets the best of him. Like the time he disappeared at Thanksgiving and I found him face deep in the turkey. I’ll never forget taking him out to a hardware store to pick something up. At the checkout the cashier got on his level, I mentioned to not let him lick her face. She asked if he was sick, I said no, he eats poop. She ran away with the quickness. I’ll still never understand people who let dogs lick their faces, and not just that but a strange dog? No thank you. It took him a while to warm up to me and his new home. If I took him out in public, if a woman approached he was totally fine, if it was a man, he would hide behind me. Now, he just loves everyone. They said he was between 3-5 when I got him. He’s been coming into his graybeard for a while now. He still wants to play and wrestle. He mostly just wants to cuddle and nap. I’ll be devastated when it’s his time, and I don’t think I’ll want another dog. [link] [comments] |
